United States Air Force Thunderbirds in Calypso Formation

The Thunderbirds represent the ultimate in skill, precision and American air power in the jet age. Nellis Air Force Base hosts Aviation Nation, one of the largest aviation events in North America and the premier air show of the United States Air Force.

Since the unit’s inception in 1953, more than 315 million people from all 50 states and 60 foreign countries have witnessed the red, white, and blue jets at more than 4,000 official air demonstrations. A Thunderbirds air demonstration is a mix of up to six Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft performing formation flying and solo routines. Their aerial ballet demonstrations with multiple aircraft underscore the Air Force pilots’ mastery of training and exactitude.
