A priestess greets pilgrims to the Sanamahi Temple with a welcoming smile and an offering of bananas. In spite of the predominant transformation of the Meiteis from their own religion known as Sanamahi to Vaishnava bhaktas, worship of Vishnu, many pre-Hindu rituals and beliefs linger in the songs, dance and rituals of the Meiteis.
